Boyne – Tannum

Boyne Island and Tannum Sands are linked by a short bridge across the Boyne River. There is a wonderful climate all year round and both places have excellent fishing spots. The area has a relaxed coastal lifestyle and there is a range of attractive beaches, riverside walkways, parklands and recreational opportunities.

The area is surrounded by wonderful beaches and landscaped foreshores with great BBQ and family facilities, the population is now nearing 10,000 people. Boyne Island is home to the larges aluminium smelter (Boyne Smelters Limited) which employs 1,200 people to produce 510,000 tonnes of metal per year.

Tannum Sands has plenty of good accommodation and plenty to see with its long white sandy beaches – perfect for swimming, sail boarding and surf skiing. There are also walking and cycling tracks as well as parklands with fun playgrounds, free BBQs and well maintained facilities.

Boyne – Tannum is located 20 minutes of Gladstone and with the small variation in seasonal water temperatures – the waters of Tannum Sands and Boyne Island are perfect for swimming all year round.

Features:

Boyne Island:  Boyne Island is home to the Boyne Aluminium Smelter.  There is plenty of great fishing and an interesting 15 kilometre Turtle Way walking track.

Tannum Sands:  The perfect place for a swim – the water temperature here hardly varies from a pleasant 21 degrees all year.
